I'm pleased to announce the release of TapeWorm 1.1, Alpha 1, the first test version of the next TapeWorm release. New features include: I've added a feature that's been referred to as "Myth-to-go" on the MythTV-users mailing list. You can select programs from your MythTV Server and tell TapeWorm to make a local copy, which you can then take with you and watch on the road, without needing to be connected to your MythTV Server. I've added the ability to delete programs, both from the MythTV Server and from the local copies. I often like to delete a show as soon as I've watched it, since I'm always critically low on disk space. Now I can do it from TapeWorm, instead of having to go to my MythTV box. Third, I've made the system for launching the video player more flexible. There are now three different methods of launching the media player to choose from. Each method has advantages and disadvantages, so now you can select the one that works best for the way you like to watch your videos. Among other things, this provides a solution for people who have spaces in their video file names or video paths. If you're interested, please see http://tapeworm.spurgeonwoods.com/TapeWorm11Alpha1.htm. This page describes the new version and explains the configuration changes I made to support these new features. Enjoy, and please let me know (via this list) what you think of the changes. I'll bet that error comes up when you have deleted the LAST entry from the Local list, but won't come up if you have several items and just delete one. I'll add code to detect that the list is empty for the release. IIRC, I got an e-mail from you that was one of the ones that prompted the launch options. I hope the explanations of the different methods don't make it seem too confusing. David > Hi David, > > Just wanted to say thanks and good work once again. Now with Myth-to-go! Message-ID: <002c01c68dd5$762fc370$6501a8c0@David> Greetings. I'd like to take this opportunity to announce the release of TapeWorm, version 1.1. TapeWorm is a parasitic Windows Client for MythTV. It allows users to watch shows recorded on MythTV on networked Windows computers. Version 1.1 adds a feature that's been referred to on mythtv-users as "Myth-to-go", the capacity to copy selected shows and their data to another computer so you can take them with you on the road. I've been happily using Tapeworm for a couple days now. It's working real well with MyHD which is a media player that can use my MDP120 HD decoding card under windows. The linux mythtv box has no permanent monitor or speakers connected to it, it's just meant to capture. However, it would be neat to use the telnet remote control feature that was added in 0.19 to start a Live TV capture and change the channel to what I want to watch, then watch it with tapeworm (admittedly this is more interesting for my laptop as the MyHD card also captures HD from antenna for live tv purposes, it's DVR app is just inadequate). The problem I have with this is if I start a capture then it just loops when it gets to the end where it was when I started watching it, rather than continuing on. Another problem I'm seeing is that after the first configuration, when I try to configure Tapeworm, the app doesn't let me change the player, I have to use regedit to do that. Thanks for the toy though! It's very nice even without these things. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Interesting. I'll look into it, though I'm not likely to have time in the next month or so. Work is really busy right now. > The problem I have with this is if I start a capture then it just loops > when it gets to the end where it was when I started watching it, rather > than continuing on. As I understand it, that's a limitation of the media player. Some media players can cope with files of changing size, others apparently see how long a file is on startup and quit when they think the file should be over. At least I think I remember reading something along those lines on the mythtv-users list a week ago or so. I think mplayer might be worth looking at in that regard, if it can handle your HD files. Anyway, it's not something that TapeWorm has control over. TapeWorm just launches the player and waits for it to quit. > Another problem I'm seeing is that after the first configuration, when I > try to configure Tapeworm, the app doesn't let me change the player, I > have to use regedit to do that. Hmmm. I don't know what's up with that. I can change the media player command with no problem. I'm not at home right now, so I can't check the source code to see if I screwed something up. I'll check it when I get home. > Thanks for the toy though! It's very nice even without > these things. You're welcome. I'm glad you like it. I'd guess you didn't specify a local video path. (Amy, this is likely also your issue.) Thanks for the traceback. You're the second person to report the error, but this gives me the necessary clue I need to correct it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to fix it until Monday. I have just released version 1.1.1 of TapeWorm. It contains two bug fixes. First, if you left the Local Video Directory blank on the configuration screen, you couldn't save changes to the video player. (I was never able to actually recreate this bug, but think I figured it out based on user feedback. If not, please let me know ASAP!) Second, if you changed the local video directory from one that had files in it to a new one, you got an odd error message that was uninformative and unnecessary. That has been eliminated. If you've already contributed to Capital Candlelighters for a previous version of TapeWorm, you do not need to contribute again for the upgrade.
